Top 10 Metros for Female Executives

The Boulder, Bridgeport and Akron metros have the highest concentrations of female executives per 1,000 working women in the US. But breaking the glass ceiling isn’t easy. According to the most recent census data, fewer than one in four top executives are female. On average, for every 1,000 working women just eight are in top executive positions.

The prevalence of female top executives varies widely among individual metropolitan areas. In regions such as Boulder, Colorado and Bridgeport, Connecticut, the proportion of female top executives is more than the twice the US average. In both communities, there are more than 16 female top executives for every 1,000 female workers. In other metropolitan areas, fewer than two out of every 1,000 female workers is classified as a top executive.

Notably, not a single metropolitan area has a higher proportion of female top executives than the overall US average for men.
