AUSTN, Texas (April, 2011)—In another sign that Austin-based companies are indeed hard at work in major metropolitan areas across the country, Avalanche Consulting, Inc. has entered into an agreement with The Beacon Council, the Miami-Dade County (Florida) economic development agency. The deal includes an in-depth competitive analysis and a strategic plan for reviving the county’s economy.
Led by former ‘Austin Under 40’ winner Amy Holloway, Avalanche has emerged as the go-to firm for economic development strategic planning with projects under its belt from coast-to- coast. Combined, the company’s two principals have worked with more than 100 economic and workforce development organizations, including recent projects in Texas, South Carolina, Montana, Kansas and Kentucky, among others. Since Avalanche’s founding six years ago, the firm’s clients have generated over $2 billion in new capital investment and thousands of jobs for residents.
“There is no other place in the country like Miami-Dade County, and we are thrilled to be selected as the national consulting firm to help them plan for the future,” Amy Holloway, president of Avalanche Consulting said. “The eleven-month planning process will include an in- depth economic analysis, input from residents and area leaders, identification of target audiences, and a detailed strategy for improving the region’s economy over the next five years. We are especially excited about having the opportunity to work in such a dynamic, international community.”
With a core team that includes Austinites Amy Holloway and Chris Engle, Avalanche’s allies on the Beacon Council project include Greenville, South Carolina-based McCallum Sweeney Consulting, a leading national site selection consultancy. Also on board is The Council for Adult and Experiential Learning, a Chicago-based, national non-profit that specializes in workforce development and education. This all-star team will work exclusively under Avalanche’s direction throughout the project.
Avalanche was one of four national firms shortlisted for the assignment. After interviewing with Miami-Dade leaders in January, the firm received notification of contract award on March 24.
